THE DRIVER

Hackney Based rally driver Robert Dillon has always been a motor sport fan but has only recently got involved at a club level.

It all started a few years ago when Robert went along to the Brands Hatch motor circuit and had a blast around their rally circuit, wow the seed was planted.

The following day was spent searching the Internet for a local motor club and finding out how to get involved. The following week Robert joined Chelmsford Motor Club and met Shane Kielthy his current co-driver, Robert and Shane joined forces and took part in the clubs 12-car series.

A lot was learnt in the first year but then the boys went on to win the clubs 12 car series the following year!!

They duly progressed up on to full night rallies taking part in the Kent road rally, the Essex based Pheasant PluckIer and the famous Preston road rally.

Robert has always wanted to get into a stage prepared rally car and at a recent club night in Chelmsford the discussion moved on to stage rallying and what was the best way to get involved. The Peugeot 205 challenge seemed to be getting mentioned again and again, so Robert went off to do some research and spoke to the challenge organizer Pat Flynn.

The challenge appeared to be the best springboard into stage rallying, i.e. cost effected with lots of help and training being offered to novice crews.

So then Robert took the plunge, bought a fully prepared stage rally car, convinced Shane that this was the only way forward and sent the entry forms off to Pat.
